Dr. Emina Bužinkić, researcher at the Institute for Development and International Relations (IRMO), participated in the 2026 Annual Conference of the British Society for Middle Eastern Studies (BRISMES), held at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, from June 23–25, 2026.

The conference, War, Empire and Sabotage in an Age of Genocide, brought together over 400 scholars from around the world to examine the global dynamics of war, empire, displacement, and resistance, with a particular focus on the Middle East and North Africa. Responding to the ongoing genocide in Gaza, the conference explored how empire, militarism, racialization, and settler colonialism shape contemporary political realities while highlighting decolonial, feminist, Black, Indigenous, and other critical approaches to imagining more just futures.

Participation in BRISMES 2026 reflects IRMO’s continued commitment to international scholarly engagement on migration, social justice, and global inequalities. Dr Bužinkić’s participation was funded through the project International Relations – Determinants of Resilient Sustainable Development (MO4R) implemented by the Department for International Economic and Political Relations. This project is funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan 2021-2026.
