Senada Šelo Šabić, Ph.D., participated in the Policy Lab event organized by the FutuRes (Towards a Resilient Future of Europe) project on March 11, 2025. Designed as a stakeholder dialogue, the Policy Lab provided an online platform for meaningful engagement between scientific experts and policymakers. The discussion centered on the critical question: Amid demographic transition, how can Europe secure an adequate workforce in essential sectors such as care and infrastructure in the coming decades?

More than 200 participants contributed to the dialogue, addressing key topics including automation and labor markets, family dynamics, equality in older age, and institutional resilience. In her keynote address, former advisor to the European Commission, Prof. Pearl Dykstra, emphasized the opportunities for policymaking while also cautioning against the contemporary obstacles posed by political stalemates across Europe and the growing security and economic challenges. She underscored the importance of transdisciplinary dialogue at the European level in overcoming these obstacles.

The Policy Lab continued with breakout sessions, where various research studies were presented. Dr. Šelo Šabić took part in the discussion following the presentation of What Does It Mean to Make Institutions ‘Resilient’ in an Ageing Europe? by Arnstein Aassve, Professor of Demography at Bocconi University, which sparked an engaging and insightful debate.
