The ETN Imagine Kick-Off Meeting took place from March 19-21, 2025, at the Alte Mensa, Hannah-Vogt-Saal in Göttingen, Germany. Organized by the ENLIGHT Thematic Network (ETN) on Migration, the conference aimed to foster interdisciplinary dialogue on equitable migration futures. It brought together scholars from across Europe to critically examine migration governance, border regimes, and the intersections of migration with coloniality, memory practices, and illiberal politics. Key sessions included a keynote lecture by Shahram Khosravi (Stockholm University) on “How to Do Migration Studies in These Dark Times,” panels on colonial continuities in migration law, memory practices and war, and a roundtable discussion on resisting the dual assault on migration and critical knowledge production, featuring speakers such as IRMO’s scholar Emina Bužinkić. Her intervention highlighted the interconnected repression of migration and critical scholarship, emphasizing how the criminalization of migration coincides with the shrinking academic spaces. Bužinkić called for the fostering scholarship that bridges migration, Palestine, capitalism, race, gender, and decolonial struggles across geographies and political contexts.
