Research Advisor Dr Sandro Knezović and Research Assistant Lea Fabić participated in the seminar “A Southern European Approach to the New European Security Strategy”, organised by the Barcelona Centre for International Affairs (CIDOB) in Barcelona on 6 October, with the support of the Hablamos de Europa programme.

The seminar brought together representatives of leading Southern European think tanks and research institutions to exchange views on the current security and defence challenges facing the European Union and to reflect on the new European Security Strategy from a Southern European perspective. Discussions focused on current geopolitical developments and their implications for European security and defence, as well as on the internal and external challenges facing the EU. Particular attention was given to how the new European Security Strategy can respond to the changing geopolitical environment and contribute to shaping a European vision for addressing emerging and growing security challenges.

Dr Sandro Knezović participated as a panellist in the session “Challenges, Threats and Priorities: A Southern European Contribution to the New European Security Strategy”, where he addressed both shared and specific security priorities among the EU’s Southern European member states. He also highlighted security challenges in Europe’s immediate neighbourhood and the strategic importance of the Western Balkans for European security and stability.

Research Assistant Lea Fabić participated in the seminar’s discussions, exchanging views with other participants on the current security and defence challenges facing the European Union, as well as on the priorities and perspectives of Southern European countries in shaping the new European Security Strategy.

The participation of IRMO representatives contributed to the exchange of expert and research perspectives on the future of European security policy and further underscored the importance of the Southern European contribution to shaping the new European Security Strategy.
