Dr. Senada Šelo Šabić, Scientific Adviser at the Institute for Development and International Relations, participated in the European Security Studies 2026 conference, held on 11 and 12 June 2026 at Stockholm University.
The conference was jointly organised by EISS, NetSec and Stockholm University, bringing together researchers and experts working on European security, geopolitical change, deterrence, war and peace, digital security, regional security and security challenges in Europe’s neighbourhood.
Dr. Šelo Šabić participated in the panel “Regional Security in the Balkans”, dedicated to security issues in Southeast Europe. As part of the panel, she delivered a presentation titled “Peace as Stalemate: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Forever Missions and the Strategic Logic of Frozen Peace”.
Her presentation analysed Bosnia and Herzegovina through the lens of long-term international missions, the limitations of post-conflict stabilisation and the strategic logic of “frozen peace”. Particular attention was given to the question of whether the long-term preservation of peace without political transformation can become a form of stalemate that prevents the renewal of conflict, while also constraining democratic and institutional development.
Dr. Šelo Šabić’s participation in the conference confirms IRMO’s continued contribution to international discussions on European security, the stability of the Western Balkans and the challenges of post-conflict peacebuilding.
