Ljubljana Roundtable Reflected on the New Pact Through Lived Experiences and Social Work Practices

Apr 18, 2025 | Center, News

On April 15th, the roundtable “Unpacking the New Pact on Migration and Asylum through Social Work Practices”, organized by Reka si, Research and Art Institute, brought together activists, researchers, and practitioners at the Faculty of Social Work in Ljubljana. The event offered a much-needed space to critically reflect on how the EU’s New Pact on Migration and Asylum affects the lives of people on the move—beyond political rhetoric. The discussion centered on real-life experiences, intersecting fields of activism, research, and gender justice. The speakers were: Manar Abulkareem Abed, an advocate against gender-based violence with lived experience of migration from Iraq; Samer Arkawi, a migration researcher and PhD candidate at  the University of Ljubljana; and Dr. Emina Bužinkić, a scholar-activist focused on migration, race, and education. Samar Zughool, a PhD candidate at the University of Ljubljana and a director of Reka si moderated the table.
