The article Energy Challenges in the Western Balkans: Transition to clean energy must clear economic and geopolitical hurdles by the Head of the Department for International Economic and Political Relations Ana-Maria Boromisa, Ph.D., was recently published in per Concordiam: The Journal of European Security and Defense Issues.

The Western Balkans region is vulnerable to changes in energy prices and disruptions in the supply chain due to high dependence on fossil fuels and energy imports. In order to overcome economic, geopolitical and infrastructural challenges, the Western Balkans must transition to green energy sources. The article addresses the problems that hinder the region’s transition to renewable energy and finds solutions for harmonizing short-term energy security with long-term decarbonization goals. Dr. Boromisa highlights that a well-implemented energy transition can improve economic stability, reduce energy poverty and improve the overall energy security of the entire region.
