Dr. Senada Šelo Šabić, Scientific Adviser at the Institute for Development and International Relations, participated as IRMO’s representative in the EuroMeSCo Annual Conference, held from 4 to 6 June 2026 at the University of Lancashire, UCLan Cyprus, in Larnaca, Cyprus.

The conference, titled “Strategic partnerships under pressure: Rewiring Euro-Mediterranean cooperation in an age of global competition”, brought together representatives of research institutes, think tanks and experts working on Euro-Mediterranean cooperation, security, migration, development and geopolitical change.

EuroMeSCo is the main network of research centres and think tanks in the Euro-Mediterranean area. It brings together 126 institutes from 30 European and Southern Mediterranean countries, with the aim of strengthening research, dialogue and advocacy in the field of Euro-Mediterranean relations.

IRMO’s participation in this network is particularly important in the context of the growing interconnection of European, Middle Eastern and North African security, political and development dynamics. Since Croatia is a member of the MED9 group, which brings together nine Mediterranean and Southern European EU member states, participation in meetings that provide direct insight into the dynamics of the Mediterranean, the Middle East, North Africa and Europe is becoming increasingly relevant.

Dr. Šelo Šabić also participated in the EuroMeSCo General Assembly meeting, which discussed the next steps in the work of the organisation, as well as decisions related to the admission of new members.

Participation in the EuroMeSCo Annual Conference further confirms IRMO’s visibility in the Euro-Mediterranean research space and the importance of the Croatian perspective in reflections on regional stability, security, connectivity and cooperation in the wider neighbourhood of the European Union.
