On Wednesday, June 5, Dr. Emina Bužinkić of IRMO and the Free Palestine Initiative, took part in the political talk show Otvoreno on Croatian public television. The show centered the question of the recognition of the Palestinian state. Bužinkić, whose scholarship focuses on Palestinian issues and colonial violence, spoke about the right to self-determination and the perspectives and questions surrounding the recognition of the Palestinian state. She emphasized that self-determination is important for sovereignty, and a more relevant position in the global world order, especially in the context of participating in the work of the UN or cooperating with the International Criminal Court. She also warned of two risks: the camouflage of the ongoing genocide in Gaza as states continue to arm Israel, and the limiting two-state solution, which does not allow Palestine to control its own territory or cooperate with the World Court.
